Our commitment extends beyond just food production

Since our founding, Rainbow
has remained committed to
nourishing the nation.

Our commitment extends beyond just food production; we also strive to support the communities where we live and work, including disadvantaged individuals in and around the areas where we operate and from which we draw our employees.

That’s why our Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiatives are guided by a responsibility to create meaningful, long-term social, economic, and environmental impact with developmental intent. We focus on sustainable development and shared value, all while remaining firmly anchored in our mission and broader purpose. Our CSI strategy is structured around two pillars: Social Cohesion and Community Development.

Corporate Social Investment Philosophy

At Rainbow, we don’t believe in once-off interventions. Our approach to CSI is focused on long-term developmental intent designed to create lasting, sustainable impact.

At its heart, the primary purpose of our CSI initiatives is to improve the lives of individuals and communities around us. Through targeted initiatives, we aim to support early childhood development, including nutrition, early learning, caregiver and maternal support, in partnership with the DO MORE Foundation.

Alongside this, we invest in education and skills development to empower individuals, make opportunities accessible, and help build stronger, more resilient communities for the future.

This work also supports our business by strengthening stakeholder relationships and trust, enhancing our reputation as a responsible corporate citizen, building employee pride, and contributing to a future skills pipeline in the communities connected to our operations

Focus Areas & Partnerships

Rainbow’s CSI work is brought to life through purposeful partnerships and initiatives that respond to communities’ needs across our two CSI pillars: Social Cohesion (including early childhood development, education and skills, health and nutrition, care and social integration) and Community Development (including community upliftment and infrastructure support)

Early Childhood Development with the DO MORE Foundation

Founded by RCL FOODS, DO MORE FOUNDATION
Founded by RCL FOODS, DO MORE FOUNDATION

A proud key partner of the DO MORE Foundation, Rainbow works alongside public, private, and NGO partners to improve outcomes for young children and their communities, particularly in underserved areas surrounding our operations.

Through initiatives focused on nutrition, early learning, and caregiver support, Rainbow and DO MORE contribute to the holistic development of children from birth to age five. These plans are carefully aligned with national and global early childhood development frameworks, including South Africa’s National Integrated Early Childhood Development (ECD)
Policy and the World Health Organisation’s Nurturing Care Framework.

Our involvement extends beyond funding to active participation in community development programmes. This underscores our belief that our sustainable business success should positively impact the well-being of the surrounding communities.

Since partnering with the DO MORE Foundation, we’ve reduced hunger and reinforced our commitment to nourishing the nation by providing approximately 200,000 meals to vulnerable communities to date.

Empowering Our People, Strengthening Families

Developed by the DO MORE Foundation, the Eat Love Play Talk programme was introduced at two Rainbow business sites, providing employees with practical tools and guidance to support early childhood development and build stronger home environments. By equipping our people with knowledge and practical support, we help them feel more confident in their caregiving role, creating positive ripple effects that extend from the workplace into their homes and communities.

This approach reinforces our belief that empowering our employees is one of the most meaningful ways to strengthen families and improve outcomes for children in the critical early years.

Boland Rugby Union Sponsorship

Rainbow’s partnership with the Boland Rugby Union reflects our long-standing commitment to youth development and nurturing social cohesion through sport. A key part of this partnership is the Tjokkers Rugby Clinic, aimed at primary schools in the Worcester area, where learners are introduced to the fundamentals of the game through structured coaching sessions that promote fun, participation and safe play. Beyond rugby skills, the clinic is designed to build confidence, discipline and teamwork, helping young people develop life skills that support positive choices in and out of school.

By supporting grassroots and professional rugby structures, we aim to help grow local talent, foster teamwork, and expand access to coaching, equipment, and competitive opportunities for aspiring athletes from previously disadvantaged backgrounds.

Farmer Development and Engagement

At Rainbow, we know that environmental and agricultural sustainability, as well as food security depend on farmers’ growth and empowerment. Our Farmer’s Days, technical skills training and engagement initiatives provide farmers with the opportunity to network, share knowledge, collaborate, and develop skills across all areas of the agricultural value chain.

Additionally, by bringing farmers, experts, and partners together, this initiative supports learning about sustainability, innovation, animal health and best-practice farming: all in service to help us reach our ultimate goal of nourishing the nation.
